The newly released NEX-3 and NEX-5 are Alpha-series cameras. Both of them are almost identical, save for the build quality and movie recording capabilities. Both are very small cameras, though the lenses are a bit bulky, due to the camera's APS-C sensor (which is 60% larger than a Micro Four Thirds sensor). The Sony NEX-5 is the current top model of the NEX-series of cameras, it is able to record video in 1920×1080, 17Mbps resolution.
The Sony NEX-5 uses a 7.2V 1080mAh lithium-ion battery with part number NP-FW50. The battery is rated for 330 shots per charge using the CIPA standard, which includes 50% flash shots with the detachable flash. Battery life is about average for an SLD, but we do recommend getting a second battery for your NEX-5 if you plan any extended outings.
